The lecture did not really teach me anything new. Overall, the only thing it provided were some statistics I was unaware of that supported the beliefs I already had about the benefits of coming to college. My desire to earn a career that required post-secondary education is what fueled me to want to go to college. I selfishly desire to make a name of myself through a future career that my college education prepared me for. I believe one of the largest obstacles facing a student wanting to go to college is money. Of course being intelligent enough to get into college is one thing, but that is more achievable if done independently. Being a high school student and trying to save up for college is quite difficult; that is why parents are usually the one's paying for it while their children are studying to be able to be accepted.
Although I do not have a set desired career, something like a software engineer or programmer of the like is where I am heading. To get a job in this field, a degree is not required, but getting past any entry level job without a degree is near impossible to my knowledge. I don't want to be stuck in a low level job, I desire to be in a challenging environment where completing projects would actually feel satisfying and to earn such a job, a degree is almost always required along with years of experience. Therefore, I would still go to college because to reach the level I desire, a degree is necessary.

Service
Some clear positives about volunteering include the fact that someone is receiving help that they want or need. As well as that, volunteering is capable of making the volunteer more aware of the ways others live because in many cases, the volunteer is someone who has plenty. Someone's vision of the world can become cloudy as they are surrounded with their sufficient lifestyle so volunteering is a good reminder that not everyone lives the way they do. Some negatives to volunteering can include the amount of time it takes to volunteer. In my experience, a lot of time is necessary to make a lasting effect with what you are volunteering for so to want to volunteer, but to not put in enough time could leave little effect on what you are doing. Nothing much out of the lecture surprised me.
In high school, I spent nearly all of my service hours volunteering at a flag football league where I would assist the league owners in managing the flow of games and the setup and tear down of the fields. Most of the time, there were only an additional couple of people to assist with these tasks so many times I was needed there whether I had the spare time or not. In order for these tasks to be performed for effectively, more people would have been needed plain and simple. However, I do still believe that is was beneficial for the community because without the help that I gave, no one else would have been there to do it. Ultimately, every week I was able to prepare some fields so that little kids could enjoy some football on a Sunday and that in itself was rewarding to me.

Internet
I really enjoyed the speaker last Tuesday. He was very engaging with his humor which made me able to pay attention to his lecture for most of the time. As I don't go to Disney, I wasn't aware of the bracelets that track where you are in the park and when. I don't really mind that kind of technology for Disney; I think it is really helpful for them as well as making the park experience more convenient for the visitors. One thing he talked about was the acquisitions of certain companies based almost solely on the information they gather, but I was already aware that such a thing existed.
As far as the amount of personal information on the internet, it can be troubling, but for the most part I am not too worried. I think that the real issue is when people are too open about their information, for example putting up their address, in an online place that is open to see by anyone. I am conscious about what kind of information I put up on the internet and am therefore comfortable with where my personal info is, but I cannot speak for others. Other than that, I don't dislike how companies use basic user information to target a certain audience or market. I think that when companies do something like that, they only have the best interest in mind and are trying to make shopping more convenient and cheaper for people.

Global Perspective
Having a global perspective is being able to view issues, events, or beliefs from others' points of view. Specifically, having a global perspective means being able to view these situations from the view of other nations or people from other cultures. Global perspective is important because having one is imperative to understanding how and why other cultures act. When an issue arises and people from other parts of the world want to help, you need global perspective to act in a way that the suffering people would appreciate and find moral.
There are unique benefits to studying abroad that are unable to be attained through normal schooling at home. Particularly, to directly experience a new culture that you are interested in is unique in studying abroad. I believe there are two major obstacles before studying abroad. First of all, the cost of traveling to the country of your choice is expensive and raising money as a college student is challenging. Second of all, finding a country that you both: desire to travel to and incorporates studying your major can also be challenging. Specifically for me, a STEM major, only a select few countries would interest me to travel to and also include classes that allow me to continue studying my major. Because of these things, I am not really interested in traveling abroad. Therefore, to gain a global perspective, I believe the next best thing would be to simply take the classes FSU provides us with.

True Leadership
To me, the leaders we see today all typically share somewhat similar traits and these traits are what I believe makes a leader. Intelligence is key to leadership because the ability to use knowledge in order to better the people you serve, I think, is one of the most important tasks a leader should face. In that also lies a second trait: compassion. A leader should feel a desire to create the best for others, the people he serves. Lastly, I believe boldness can be one of the most effective traits of a leader because a confident leader's attitude is contagious and can make the people he serves feel confident as well. Leadership is the ability to use each of these attributes and more to create optimal opportunities and situations for his/her people.
A good political leader must obviously have sufficient knowledge of government and politics, but also about his/her people. A good political leader listens to the desires of the people and reflects on their feelings, eventually deciding if what they want is best for their sake, not his/her own. I was once a coach at a summer sports camp for elementary school kids. As their leader, I did my best to listen to what games they wanted to play, but first I would introduce them to games in order for them to be able to experience them all. This way, I thought they would remember which games they liked the most and when it was their choice, there was no doubt in their answers.
