Global Perspective

Having a global perspective is being able to view issues, events, or beliefs from others' points of view. Specifically, having a global perspective means being able to view these situations from the view of other nations or people from other cultures. Global perspective is important because having one is imperative to understanding how and why other cultures act. When an issue arises and people from other parts of the world want to help, you need global perspective to act in a way that the suffering people would appreciate and find moral.

There are unique benefits to studying abroad that are unable to be attained through normal schooling at home. Particularly, to directly experience a new culture that you are interested in is unique in studying abroad. I believe there are two major obstacles before studying abroad. First of all, the cost of traveling to the country of your choice is expensive and raising money as a college student is challenging. Second of all, finding a country that you both: desire to travel to and incorporates studying your major can also be challenging. Specifically for me, a STEM major, only a select few countries would interest me to travel to and also include classes that allow me to continue studying my major. Because of these things, I am not really interested in traveling abroad. Therefore, to gain a global perspective, I believe the next best thing would be to simply take the classes FSU provides us with.

  1. I like that you mentioned the issues of studying abroad as a STEM major. I honestly had never considered it as someone who never considered a STEM major and was very interested in studying abroad. I feel like that's a group that's definitely underrepresented in study abroad, but that I think could benefit just as much as any other discipline. It's definitely interesting to here the perspective of someone not heavily interested in studying abroad as I know that was a major deciding factor for many of my college related decisions.
